Nepal: Mandatory to learn Mandarin in many schools Many schools in
Nepal have made it mandatory for students to learn Mandarin. This decision was taken after the proposal of the Chinese government, in which the salary of Mandarin teachers was asked to be given by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. However, Nepal's Curriculum Development Center opposed the mandatory requirement of Mandarin. Under the One Belt-One Road project in Nepal, China has implemented a plan to increase the scope of Mandarin.

China opened study centers in Nepal under the rule of KP Sharma Oli, in which Mandarin is taught. It is claimed that Chinese culture is being imposed on Nepali students in these study centres. These centers are run by the citizens of Nepal, but China is bearing their expenses. More than 20,000 students are studying at Kathmandu University in 4 Confucius classrooms and 14 teaching sites.
